Aim: To give those onboard ship who do not have a designated security duty the essential education and training meeting the knowledge, understanding and proficiency (KUP) requirements set out in the following STCW table, which supports Chapter XI-2 of the annex to the SOLAS Convention 1974, as amended and the ISPS Code.
Please Note: security awareness training must be undertaken by all seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on ships which are required to comply with the ISPS Code. The training must meet the following requirements:

Competence: Contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness recognize security threats.
Understand the need for, and methods of maintaining security awareness and vigilance
Entry requirements:
There are no restriction to attend this course, which can be delivered on board ship as an MCA approved course or may de delivered in conjunction with other courses within basic training.
Learning objective:
6. Identify the company requirement to designate a CSO and SSO and identify the reporting responsibilities.
7. Identify the need for a PFSO to be designated for each facility.
8. Identify the need for members of the ship’s crew other than the SSO to have designated security duties in support of the SSO.
9. Identify the need for other ship and port facility personnel to have a role in the enhancement of maritime security.
